Syria Closes Border With Jordan As Tanks Move Into Southern Town
Syria on Monday sealed off its border with Jordan, the Jordanian information minister Taher Adwan confirmed, following reports that army forces entered the southern town Daraa. “Syria closed its land borders with Jordan.
The Syrian decision is related to the internal situation in Syria,” Adwan was quoted as saying by Petra news agency.
Earlier, locals reported about heavy shooting in Daraa.
There have been reports that an unknown number of people shot dead and their bodies were lying in the streets.
Other rights activists said there were raids Monday in the towns of Douma and Al-Muadamiyah near the capital of Damascus.
On Sunday, 13 people were shot dead and several others wounded in the coastal town of Jableh, near the port city of Latakia in the northwest, activists said on Monday. About 10 people were arrested on Sunday in Damascus, Homs, Daraa and other towns, activists said.
