Yemen: At Least 40 Killed In Blast At Looted Ammunition Factory
A huge explosion at an ammunition factory killed at least 70 people and injured 90 others on Monday near the south Yemeni town of Jaar.
This came after Al-Qaeda gunmen looted the plant, a local official said.
“At least 40 people, including children, were killed in the explosion,” local government official Mohsen Salem told AFP before the death toll was updated. He added that 90 others were wounded.
According to a security official, the explosion came as dozens of residents were inside the factory searching for ammunition. The cause of the blast was unknown.
Some 30 armed and hooded gunmen looted the factory on Sunday and made off in four vehicles with cases of weapons, witnesses conveyed.
