Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Denies Plans For Candidate In Next Presidential Election
Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday denied press reports that the group is planning to field one of its members in the upcoming presidential elections.
This came after a local newspaper reported earlier today that senior Brotherhood member Dr. Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh, will run in the elections.
The Muslim Brotherhood said that although it has established its political Freedom and Justice Party and will nominate members in the parliamentary elections it has no plans to put forward a candidate to stand in presidential elections set for September.
MB leaders have repeatedly stressed that the group has no ambitions to run for the presidency, or posts in a coalition government.
