UN Launches Desperate Bid For Syrian Refugee Funds

By

The United Nations has appealed for $1.5 billion to provide aid for those affected by the Syrian conflict.

The two appeals, launched on Wednesday, are designed to help over one million people who have fled their homes to escape the 21 month uprising.

Refugees are currently in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.

A UNHCR regional envoy, Panos Moumtzis, was quoted by Reuters as saying, “Unless these funds come quickly we will not be able to fully respond to the lifesaving needs of civilians who flee Syria every hour of the day – many in a truly desperate condition.”
