Klára Hůrková was born in Prague, where she completed her primary and secondary education and also studied philosophy at Charles University. In 1994, her first collection of poems, Verses from the Mountains, inspired by her life in Šumava, was published by the PmD/Poezie mimo domov publishing house in Munich. This was followed by the first collection of poems written in German, Fußspuren auf dem Wasser, 1998. Since then, Klára Hůrková has published many collections of poetry in Czech, German and English, as well as two collections of short prose, one novella and numerous translations. She is the editor of three anthologies of contemporary Czech and German poetry. Her texts have been translated into nine languages and her work has won awards in literary competitions in various countries. In 2019, she became a member of the Czech Center of the International P.E.N. Club.
