Egyptian PM: Arab And Western Nations Fail To Aid Egypt
Dr. Kamal al Ganzouri, the Egyptian Prime Minister, on Tuesday, confirmed Western and Arab countries failed to fulfill their promise to aid Egypt. These comments came as Ganzouri spoke for the first time in front of the new Egyptian Parliament. During his speech he touched mainly the economic situation of Egypt, saying: “Egypt witnessed organized looting in the last ten years, “denying accusations that the revolution deepened this crisis.
Ganzouri conveyed “that the domestic debt was until 1999 in the range of 147 billion pounds, but increased during the last ten years to 857 billion pounds, and this debt drains quarter of the budget,” he said, adding that the oil sector drains some LE 42 billion because of the futility of which was done in it over the past years.”
He stressed that ” during the past two months the government has been able to reduce the budget deficit to 20 billion pounds,” and is continuing to boost production in the absence of the arrival of any assistance from Arab or Western nation. “We must rely on our internal resources,” he stated.
Politically speaking. Ganzouri directed his words to the new members of the house, mainly from the Muslim Brotherhood: “Glory of God, I see today faces I have not seen before.” And added: “I am the only minister who left the government without any medal (just) for my objection to the policies which could harm the interests of the Egyptian people, such as the conversion of the debt to the U.S. military to a commercial debt.”
He talked about one of the martyrs, stressing “It is important that we pay financial compensations to those martyrs and the injured (of the revolution).”
