Russia: 9-Year-Old On Trial For Late Mom’s $19,000 Debt

A nine-year-old boy faces a trial in Moscow’s Tverskoi Court over a debt of 561,000 rubles ($19,000) that he inherited from his late mother, Polina Kleimenova, a spokeswoman for the court, said on Monday.
She said the court had received a lawsuit from one Mr. Panikorovsky who is seeking to collect from the boy some 561,000 rubles owed under a loan made to the defendant’s mother.
She said the boy is the defendant since he inherited his mother’s assets and her debts.
“There is nothing illegal in such a lawsuit,” she said adding that the boy will be represented in court by his official guardian.
