Iran: Concerns Sunni Prisoners Face Imminent Execution

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that 27 Sunni prisoners in Karaj Rejai Shahr Prison are in imminent danger of execution.

HRANA reported on Saturday April 30 that the head of section 4 of Rejai Shahr Prison has informed 27 Sunni prisoners in that section that their sentences have been forwarded to the Enforcement Office.

The report indicates that the charges against the prisoners include “acting against national security, propaganda against the regime, membership in Salafi groups, corruption on earth and enmity against God”.

It further adds that most of these prisoners were arrested between 2009 and 2011 and were held in solitary confinement, and there is concern that may have been tortured or mistreated.

According to the report by HRANA, at least one of the prisoners was under 18 years of age at the time of his arrest.
