Drake Tops Spotify’s Yearend Most-Played Lists

On Thursday, December 1, music streaming giant Spotify released Wrapped, its annual lists that reveal which songs and artists have made the biggest impact in the music industry in 2016. And for the second consecutive year, Drake tops the most-streamed artist list with over 4.7 billion streams, beating out Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots and Kanye West, AceShowbiz said.
His album “Views” becomes the most-streamed album and his song “One Dance” is named Spotify’s most-streamed track and top breakup song. The Canadian rapper is also the top artist in hip-hop and pop genres.
Drake’s dominance on Spotify 2016 charts had already been predicted earlier this year. In May, the music streaming platform announced that he had topped Bieber as its most-played artist, and in October, it announced that “One Dance” became the most-streamed song, beating out Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On” featuring MO.
“Drake has been unstoppable this year — he’s a true global superstar,” said Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content & Chief Strategy Officer. “With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful ‘Summer Sixteen’ tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it’s no surprise he is dominating the music industry.”
Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend Rihanna sits at No. 3 on the most-streamed artist list. She tops the list of most-streamed female artist for the second year in a row with 2.5 billion streams. RiRi also has her album “ANTI” landed at No. 3 on the most-streamed album list.
Other artists that make up the lists include Zayn Malik, Ariana Grande, Sia Furler, Adele and Fifth Harmony among others.
