Iran Says UN Must Act Over Israeli Attack On Its Syria Mission

The Foreign Ministry of Iran called on the United Nations to show an urgent and necessary reaction to the Israeli regime’s fatal strike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus and condemn the crime that has violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli airstrike that resulted in the martyrdom of seven Iranian military advisers at the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on April 1.

The United Nations, particularly the UN Security Council and the UN secretary general, are expected to show a rapid and appropriate reaction against the Israeli regime’s actions that violate international law and threaten international peace and security, it said.

The ministry called on the UN to condemn and abhor the Zionist regime’s criminal and terrorist activities.

It also noted that the governments and the international assemblies are expected to strongly condemn Israel’s “cowardly and despicable” attack that was in breach of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, of the UN Charter, and of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents, adopted in 1973.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the responsibility for the consequences of the criminal attack on Iran’s diplomatic mission in Damascus lies with the Zionist regime.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the legitimate and inherent right, in accordance with the international law and the UN Charter, to respond decisively to such terrorist measures,” the statement added.
