Kenya Accuses Two Iranians Of Targeting Israeli, US, UK And Saudi Interests
Kenyan authorities have accused two Iranians, who were recently caught in connection with explosives, of planning attacks on Israeli, U.S., British and Saudi targets in Kenya.
According to the Associated Press, Kenyan authorities say the two suspects are believed to belong to the Quds Force, the international arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
AP reports that “Kenyan security forces arrested the Iranians on June 19 and were then led to 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of RDX, a powerful explosive that could have been used against multiple targets or concentrated in one large bomb.”
The report goes on to add that the two detained Iranians, Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammad and Sayed Mansour Mousavi, appeared in court last week, and Mohammad indicated that he had been subjected to an interrogation by Israeli agents.
A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said today that the arrest of the two Iranians in Kenya is part of a plot to destroy Iran-Kenya relations, adding that the Iranian embassy in Kenya was investigating the matter.
Ramin Mehmanparast added: “The issue that is worthy of examination is how such themes and cases involving Iranian nationals in various countries are becoming the focus of Western media these days.”
In recent years, Iran has been accused of involvement in attempted attacks, mostly against Israeli interests, in various parts of the world, including Azerbaijan, Thailand and India.
Iran denies the allegations and insists that they are part of an Israeli plot aimed at tarnishing its international reputation. In turn, Iran accuses Israel of carrying out terrorist operations in Iran that have killed three Iranian nuclear scientists.
