Russia, China Oppose Military Intervention In Syria, Iran

By

Russia and China said they were opposed to any foreign military intervention in Syria and Iran. This came in a joint statement released Wednesday after the visit to Beijing by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russia and China are firmly opposing any attempt to resolve the crisis in Syria by means of a foreign military intervention, as well as to impose a regime change, noted the statement. Both countries want a new international conference on the situation in Syria.

The two powers are also objecting any use of military force or use of force threat against Iran, and do not support taking unilateral sanctions against it, said the joint statement. Additionally, Russia and China called for further discussions to find a diplomatic settlement on the nuclear program of Iran, according to this statement.

The two powers, permanent members of UN Security Council, also warned that the persistent confrontation about Iran may have negative consequences not only for the countries of the region, but for the whole world community, especially in view of the general instability in Afghanistan, the Middle East and North Africa.
