Syria: At Least 58 dead In Friday Protests

Syrian security forces reportedly shot and killed at least 58 people in anti-government protests across the country after the first Friday prayers of Ramadan yesterday.

Eyewitnesses said some 250 tanks were surrounding the flashpoint city of Hama.

The Assad regime’s crackdown in Hama has killed “at least 300 civilians during the past six days,” activists said.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has issued a statement calling on its citizens to leave Syria immediately , and said it “was important to postpone visits” to the unrest-hit country.

“US citizens are being urged to immediately leave as long as commercial means of transportation are still available,” Reuters reported.
