Nigeria: Attack On Evangelical Church Leaves At Least 16 Dead
By MISNA
Gunmen opened fire against an evangelical church in northern Nigeria, killing at least 16 people, including the pastor who was celebrating mass.
According to the Nigerian media, the attack, the latest of a series against Christians, took place last night at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Otite, in Kogi State.
The gunmen fled the scene on a Toyota pickup.
The police has opened an investigation into the attack, for which no group has claimed responsibility. Many suspect the extremist Boko Haram group, responsible for numerous attacks against churches, as also influential Muslim figures, police stations and United Nations offices.
The attack comes two days from a similar episode in Maiduguri in the state of Borno that left four dead and an attack yesterday afternoon against a police station in Shagari, in the state of Sokoto.
