GCC Statement Says Iranian Hostilities Undermine Dialogue, Regional Ties
By Arab News
A Gulf Cooperation Council statement said on Wednesday that Iranian hostilities were undermining trust and closing the door to dialogue.
The statement stressed that “aggression does not build relations or serve any understanding or rapprochement.”
The statement added that Iran’s continued aggressive approach would only lead to further isolation, warning that such policies weaken regional stability.
It also said that the door to understanding remains open to those “who choose the language of wisdom and good neighborliness.”
The council reaffirmed its full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, stressing that the security of Gulf states is indivisible and that any attack on one member constitutes an attack on all.
The council condemned Iran’s actions, held Tehran responsible for their consequences on regional security, international shipping and energy supplies, and called on the international community to hold those responsible accountable.
It also affirmed the right of GCC states to defend themselves in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
The statement came as GCC foreign ministers attended the 167th session of the GCC Ministerial Council in Bahrain.
The meeting of the GCC for the Arab States of the Gulf was held in Manama under the chairmanship of Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.
