Syria: Reports Chemical Weapons Moved To Coastal Area

The American press reports that Syria transferred its chemical weapons from a military base near Damascus to the port of Tartous. This comes as concerns grow in the West that the weapons of mass destruction could fall into the hands of Hizbullah and other terrorist organizations.

The Lebanese opposition daily Al-Nahar reported that chemical weapons are the main component of Bashar al Assad’s Plan B, which in case of defeat in Damascus, will try to create a new center of power in Tartous and the surrounding Alawite areas.

Meanwhile, the death toll of the car bomb attack, which occurred Sunday in the Syrian province of Aleppo (north), reached 27, reported the Syrian public television. The explosion rocked the region of the Malaab al-Baladi, according to the official news agency SANA. Near the site of the explosion, there is a school housing displaced persons. News reports rclaimed that the car bomb was able to pass through a military checkpoint.

Since March 2011, the conflict in Syria left over 27 000 dead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). According to a statement by Rami Abdel Rahman , the president of the London-based NGO, among the 27,279 victims identified, more than 70% were civilians who sided with the opposition. The Syrian army lost 8000 of its members.
