Israel: Prime Minister Netanyahu Announces Early Elections To Form New Government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced early elections on Tuesday. Netanyahu said in a televised statement he had reached the conclusion that his coalition government would not be able to agree on a national budget, adding that he has “therefore decided, for the benefit of Israel, to hold elections now and as quickly as possible.” Eearlier today Voice of Russia’s Middle East correspondent quoting an informed source in the Israeli government said that Netanyahu is to dismiss the government.

Netanyahu said in a televised statement he had reached the conclusion that his coalition government would not be able to agree on a national budget, adding that he has “therefore decided, for the benefit of Israel, to hold elections now and as quickly as possible.” According to estimates, the elections will be held in the end of January or the beginning of February.

The reason for the dismissal is the government’s failure to agree on the next year budget.

Israel ’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may announce the early parliamentary election later Tuesday. This election can be held in late January-early February 2013, VoR’s sources say referring to its sources close to the head of the Israeli government.

Netanyahu is to make the final decision on this issue by the end of this week.

Earlier Tuesday, Netanyahu finished consultations on the next year budget with the heads of the political parties which form the coalition.

Analysts say that in the current situation the budget won’t be approved which may automatically lead to holding early elections.

The press service of Netanyahu’s administration later on Tuesday says Netanyahu is to make a statement for the media.
