Al-Qaeda Breakaway Group Claims It Abducts Europeans in Tidouf

An armed group, which broke away from Al-Qaeda Organization in Islamic Maghreb, claimed responsibility for abduction of two Spanish citizens and an Italian near Algerian province of Tindouf last October.

Al-Tawhid and Jihad in West Africa claimed, in an audio and written letter sent to the France Press news agency that it kidnapped the European citizens who were working in an NGO, Spanish official TV reported on Saturday.

The trio were abducted on October 23 while they were in a camp near Tindouf, it added.

Al-Qaeda Organization in Islamic Maghreb said, in a statement last Thursday, it was not responsible for the kidnapping of the Europeans.
