By

At least 17 people were killed and 81 injured in three bomb blasts in India’s financial capital Mumbai Wednesday evening, confirmed Chief Minister of Maharashtra (south-western Indian state) Prithviraj Chauhan while speaking to “Times Now” television.

Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra state. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals, both government and private.

The bomb blasts took place at busy market places, namely Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Dadar. The bombs were kept inside vehicles.

The blasts were of high intensity as nearby buildings were also damaged, TV footage showed.

The number of casualties is likely to rise even as rescue work is being carried out at the spots where the blasts took place. Heavy downpour is hampering the rescue work, added the TV report.

According to the TV report, the National Security Guards (NSG) and forensic experts have been sent to the city, and all security measures have been put in place in and around the sites where the bomb blasts took place.
