Syria: New Government Formed

A new government was formed in Syria on Thursday, state news agency SANA said, amid growing protesters across the country.

The new government is presided over by Adel Safar who served as agriculture minister in the government of Naji al-Otari who submitted his resignation late last month.

Syrian state television said Ali Habib has kept the defense portfolio while Walid al-Muallem will continue to serve as the foreign affairs minister.

Meanwhile , Major General Mohammad Ibrahim Shahar was appointed as the new interior minister and now will control the powerful security forces.

Meanwhile, a Syrian official source said an armed group of snipers opened fire at a number of army soldiers while on patrol in the city of Baniyas. Soldier Fadi Issa Mostapha was killed while soldier Tayseer Omran was wounded.
