Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged to be married after seven years as a couple.
A spokeswoman for Pitt confirmed the news to reporters Friday. She said there is no wedding date yet and that the engagement is a promise for the future.
Media outlets had speculated on the engagement after Jolie was photographed at a Los Angeles museum this week wearing a large diamond ring.
The couple have previously resisted pressure to marry, saying they would not tie the knot until gay marriage was legalized in the United States. The pair, dubbed “Brangelina” by celebrity media, have six children together, including three who are adopted.
Jolie was married before to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller. Pitt was previously married to actress Jennifer Aniston.
Jolie won an Oscar for her role in the 1999 movie, “Girl Interrupted.”
