Yemen Official ‘Surprised’ By Media Statements

An official Yemen government source Thursday expressed his surprise by media reports regarding the current situation, “which reflects the ignorance of the facts,” according to Yemeni state news agency SABA.

According to SABA, the official source suggested that some media reports reflect a lack of objectivity “due to their reliance on false, misleading and biased information aiming at provocation.”

These statements stir up the situation and encourage violence rather than sitting at the dialogue table, the source told SABA.

The same source said, according to SABA, the current demonstrations actually reflect “the richness of the real democratic practice and freedoms enjoyed by the Yemeni society,” adding that “some frictions between some demonstrators” was the result of infiltrators seeking “stir up trouble and implement certain agendas.”

Those agendas, according to the SABA source, are to aimed at causing sedition and hindering democracy.

“There is no longer a reason for incitement and demonstration after the initiative of President Ali Abdullah Saleh for reforms and his call for dialogue to reach the national consensus and understanding on all issues of concern to the nation”, the source was quoted as saying.
