IRNA Journalist Arrested By Kurdistan Intelligence

A reporter for the Iranian state new agency IRNA has been arrested in southwestern city of Sanandaj. IRNA reports that Manouchehr Tamri was arrested by “six unidentified individuals” in Sanandaj. “These individuals inspected Tamir’s home and confiscated his computer and laptop without providing any IDs,” IRNA writes.

“In recent weeks, following reports of terrorist operations in Sanandaj, the director and reporter of IRNA was summoned to the Kurdistan intelligence office and ordered to refrain from covering news regarding terrorist operations in the province,” IRNA added.

IRNA adds that this order was rejected since it is in “contradiction of the inherent mission of the Islamic Republic News Agency.”

Islamic Republic officials have been the target of a number of attacks in Kurdistan province in recent weeks. Just last night, two sound bombs were exploded in Sanandaj.

PJAK, a militant Kurdish group that claims to fight for the rights of the minority Kurds in Iran, has taken responsibility for one of the attacks on a border station, which led to the death of four government personnel.
