Egypt: Radioactive Materials Stolen From Nuclear Plant

A container with radioactive materials has been stolen from Egypt’s first nuclear power plant currently under construction at Dabaa, Egypt’s Al Ahram newspaper reports. Another container was crack-opened and part of its contents stolen.

Recently, Dabaa residents, mostly Bedouins, burst into the site and demanded that construction be halted. More than ten people were injured in clashes between the protesters and police. Demonstrators said their land had been confiscated in order to build the nuclear plant.

Following the news, Egyptian security authorities were put on alert. According to the report, the Egyptian government informed security authorities and requested search teams into to retrieve the stolen materials.
