Egypt: Mubarak Survives Assassination Attempt In Hospital By Doctor
The Egyptian al Fajr newspaper reported late Friday, that ousted President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, who is receiving treatment at the International Medical Center, had survived an assassination attempt.
Quoting unnamed sources, the newspaper said a military doctor, in the rank of major tried to strangle Mubarak in the hospital on November 3.
The sources told the newspaper that the assassination attempt took place at eight in the morning on Nov. 3, as the doctor entered Mubarak’s room in order to check his sugar level. During the process he tried to catch the ousted leader’s neck, but the team of guards grabbed him and he was arrested. The sources declined to name the doctor who was handed over to the military prosecution.
According to al Fajr Mubarak is in the largest suite at the center. The newspaper also said the former leader has suffered high blood pressure, and called for increased security.
