Syria: Situation Returns ‘To Normal’

Syria’s independent news channel said on Sunday that the situation in the city of Daraa, which saw demonstrations on Friday in which a number of people were killed, has returned to normal.

The channel said that a committee of elders and tribal leaders in Daraa began assessment of the consequences of the events of last Friday on the grounds that what happened was due to mistakes of some figures holding official positions in the country, including some locals.

The channel quoted Syrian sources as confirming that the Syrian authorities would cooperate with the elders of Daraa to determine the cause of what happened and hold accountable those responsible for what occurred.

The channel added that the Syrian authorities vowed that violators would be prosecuted.
