Hindus Ask Gaga To Support Gypsy Apartheid Issue As She Feels ‘Gypsy At Heart’

By

Welcoming international pop icon Lady Gaga’s reported statements about affinity to Gypsy lifestyle, Hindus have asked her to highlight the plight of European Roma (Gypsies) who faced apartheid conditions.

Gaga (Born This Way), 25, has been quoted as saying in the past that she was a gypsy at heart and now she reportedly said in a recent Oprah Winfrey show that she considered herself to be a wandering gypsy.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Lady Gaga should not stay apathetic and silent spectator to continuous maltreatment of about 15-million Roma brothers and sisters of Europe and use her status to highlight the apartheid conditions faced by them. Many Hollywood and other entertainment bigwigs had successfully worked against South Africa’s apartheid in the past.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that the alarming condition of Roma people was a social blight for Europe and the rest of the world as they reportedly regularly faced social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, language barriers, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, racist slogans on Internet, etc.

Rajan Zed further said that references to Roma people in Europe reportedly went as far back as ninth century CE. How many more centuries Roma had to reside in Europe to prove that they were “real and equal” Europeans like any other, he asked. If Gaga wanted their services in regard to Roma cause, they were willing to support her, Zed added.

Lady Gaga (Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) has won about 181 awards including five Grammys and her album “Born This Way” sold about one million copies in five days on iTunes. She has been listed in Time and Forbes lists of 100 most influential people in the world. Her single “Poker Face” reportedly topped nearly all the charts worldwide. With reportedly over 21 million followers on Twitter, maximum in the world, and over 49 million ‘likes’ on Facebook, she has redefined various aspects of entertainment industry. She is also famous for her head-turning costumes making outlandish fashion statements.
