Noor Wali’s Collapse: The Truth Behind The Khawarij Propaganda – OpEd
Noor Wali Mehsud (born 26 June 1978), alias Abu Mansur Asim, is a Pakistani militant and a designated terrorist internationally who is the fourth emir of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as of 2018. Mullah Fazlullah, the previous emir, was killed in a US drone attack in Kunar, Afghanistan, on 22 June 2018, and Mehsud was declared the new emir of the TTP.
Mehsud was declared a Specially Designated Global Terrorist of the US on 10 September 2019. In July 2020, the United Nations added Mehsud to the list of the ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee. The recent video message of the United Nations-designated terrorist leader, Noor Wali Mehsud, is a pathetic effort at fooling the masses and rejuvenating his failing movement. His words are once again distorted through his hidden shield of pseudo-religious rhetoric, as the Khawarij are long-time predators of the use of faith as the pretext of violence. But the contradictions of the statements of Noor Wali unveil the real truth about the situation: his position is weakening, his organization is falling apart, and their terror campaign against Pakistan is slowing down.
The desperate effort by Noor Wali to appear strong is a shadow of his weaker and weaker stance. He says that he is in the Khyber district of Pakistan, but he is still in Afghanistan, where he is under the protocol of the local heads and the Afghan Taliban. The UN monitoring reports testify that he is under logistical support, such as an annual allowance of 43,000 dollars. His denials every time he is alleged to be in Afghanistan are simply an admission of his presence in Afghanistan and that he is defended by Afghan authorities. This hypocrisy does not just portray his vulnerability but also throws a dark shade on the inability of the Afghan Taliban government to surround extremist groups that pose a threat to regional stability. Noor Wali has continued to stay in Afghanistan despite the repeated promises to ensure that the Afghan soil is not used to attack the neighboring countries, which is a clear indication that Kabul failed or lacked the intention to act.
More so, the propaganda by Noor Wali does not recognize the chaos that is going on in his own camp. The recent violence that occurred in Kabul is among the Khawarij group of people that includes the TTP and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group. These communities that were once united under the false flag jihad are, however, caught in a bloody power and resources tussle. In his recent video, the pleading calls of Noor Wali to his followers to stay with him show the declining strength of his leadership and the disintegration of his outfit. Quite on the contrary, he does not sound like a successful leader, but as a desperate person who attempts to stay relevant.
The essence of the message that Noor Wali has to offer is a lie: his claim to be a religious figure. Noor Wali, in fact, is a self-declared cleric whose deformed teachings have been denounced by Islamic scholars all over. The ideology of Khawarij, which was being propagated by the Khawarij, is denounced by over 1,800 ulema belonging to different schools of thought as a rebellion against the state and an un-Islamic distortion of faith. They have declared their so-called jihad haram, and their cruel behaviour, such as killing more than 94,000 innocent people, is a serious breach of Islamic ideology. The fact that they kill civilians and security workers indiscriminately, as well as religious minorities, shows that their motives are not specified by religion since they are motivated by political aspirations and personal profit.
However, Pakistan, on the contrary, is a powerful and coherent country in the face of the unceasing propaganda of such groups as the Khawarij. Pakistan has pushed these terrorists to the fringes through the unity of the state and the people. They have their sanctuaries in Pakistan torn down, their networks strained, and their leadership destroyed. Their movement, fed by foreign benefactors and empty threats, only lives on the other side of the border. The Pakistani people have strongly opposed the ideology of extremism, and the former victims of Khawarij terror are currently collaborating with security forces to ensure that the country has no occasion with terrorism.
The downfall of Khawarij was unavoidable. Their ideological contradictions and violent practices have sabotaged their cause. The Quran denounces the killing of innocent citizens, but they are proud of their savagery. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had also cautioned against individuals who would recite the Quran and yet their behaviours contradicted the true teachings of the Quran. This is a prophecy of the Khawarij; religious slogans, but nothing in their spiritual background. The latest video by Noor Wali is not an expression of strength but rather an expression of his weakness. His efforts to excuse his presence, tell lies about what is going on in Pakistan, and hold his sinking administration together are a further indication of the lack of organization at his level.
Noor Wali is a certified Khawarij terrorist and not a religious leader/ mujahid. It is time to be honest about him. Lack of academic or religious authority, his forged credentials, and how he used religion to gain political advantage all define him as a sham. Pakistan, in the meantime, has remained optimistic in regard to peace and stability. By use of counter-terrorism through the rule of law, national unity, and firm belief in security, Pakistan can protect the lives and rights of its citizens.
The propaganda of the Khawarij can be aimed at misleading people, but the truth is obvious: they are getting lost ideologically, territorially, and morally. The hollow sermons by Noor Wali can never change the reality that the world has been through their lies. His movement, which is left behind by people, ideology, and even its own religion, Islam, is nearing a collapse.
