Kyrgyzstan: Lawmakers Hold Exorcism In Parliament

By

(RFE/RL) — Kyrgyz lawmakers have sacrificed seven sheep in a bid to drive evil spirits out of the national legislative chamber.

Parliament press officer Shairbek Mamatoktorov said nearly all the deputies attended the April 21 ceremony.

He added that the meat from the slaughtered animals will be sent to homes for the elderly and the disabled.

Kyrgyzstan’s fragile three-party coalition has recently seen a flurry of squabbling, with deputies from two parties even coming to blows earlier this month amid bitter accusations.
