Syrians React With Joy To Gaddafi Death, Think Assad Is Next
The news of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s death was a source of joy beyond the borders of Libya. In Syria, it was received by mass demonstrators with a mixture of joy and hope, ahead of Friday of the “Martyrs of Arab deadline “, in reference to the Arab League resolution to give the Assad regime 15 days to stop the repression and bloodshed and calling for a comprehensive national dialogue with the opposition.
The Syrians in the streets said the fall of the Libyan tyrant gave them hope and boosted them to continue to demonstrate and demand to oust the regime. Videos posted on the internet showed people celebrating in Damascus, Aleppo and Harasta following the killing of Gaddafi and his two sons, along with a group of senior officials.
The demonstrators chanted slogans and raised banners congratulating the Libyan people and calling President Assad to draw the lessons. According to activists, the security forces and Shabiha militia moved into Harasta and engaged with dissident soldiers.
