German police in the Pfalz Rhineland state announced on Saturday they have evacuated residents of the village of Becherbach after finding 50 kilograms of highly-explosive nitroglycerin material in a horse stable owned by a German man in his sixties.

Police said they evacuated residents of the village’s 500 people from their homes after the discovery of the explosive materials, in addition to machine guns, hand grenades and a military vehicle.

The police added that the old man might have kept these weapons out of his passion for collecting military tools.

Spokesman for the German state police said the explosive material would be disposed of as quickly as possible, pointing out that police evacuated the citizens of the village and secured their homes for fear of looting.
