Yemen FM Denies February Presidential Elections Postponed

Yemen’s Foreign Minister Abu-Bakr al-Qirbi denied Saturday that the nation’s presidential election scheduled for February 21 have been postponed, according to local media reports.

“The presidential election in Yemen will be held on the specified date,” the foreign minister said, according to the state media agency SABA.

“There is absolutely no intention to postpone the presidential election that is scheduled to be held in the country in February”, al-Qirbi said in statements to Al-Sharq al-Awsat by telephone from London, according to SABA.

“My statements, which were understood as an indication of the intention to postpone it, were taken out of their context and remarks were excerpted from it suggesting that the election would not be held on that specific date”, al-Qirbi was quoted as saying by SABA.
