Algeria to lift state of emergency Wednesday
By KUNA
The Algerian government, chaired by President Abdulaziz Bouteflika, approved Tuesday a decree that would lift the state of emergency imposed on the North African state since February 9, 1992.
The decree, effective tomorrow, will eliminate a February 1993 decree that extended the state of emergency due to the security turmoil in Algeria.
The government said in a statement it has decided to mobilize the army in the fight against terrorism and sabotage until elimination of terrorists.
The decree states that the army would be handling the coordination of anti-terrorism operations.
