Tunisia: Polling Stations In Elections Closed, Turnout Over 90%

Polling stations for the first Constituent Assembly’s elections were closed nationwide in Tunisia on Sunday evening and counting of ballots has begun.

Unofficial estimates suggest that turnout in some constituencies exceeded 90 percent.

Observers said the turnout of voters was not expected but the voting was smooth.

Tunisians were very eager to participate in the elections, the first since removal of President Zine El-Abidine ben Ali.
