Georgia’s Saakashvili Says ‘Sense Of Instability Re-Emerges’

(Civil.Ge) — Georgia’s President Saakashvili said that “a sense serious instability has re-emerged” in Georgia and called against focusing “on the past and personal confrontation”.
In a video message on November 23, dedicated to the ninth anniversary of the Rose Revolution, Saakashvili said that despite of many challenges, Georgia had achieved “unimaginable success” in the last nine years.
”We have created the system where elections can be won or lost democratically and where governments come and go without clinging onto power, where the Georgian citizens have final say in decision-making, where institutions are above political forces, social groups and personal interests,” he said. “Your [addressing to citizens] attitude towards the state, government, bureaucracy and other institutions has changed so dramatically that going into past is impossible.”
“There is much talk about revenge and [there is] a wave of arrests and I hear lots of signals of anxiety being sent. A sense of serious instability has re-emerged [for the first time] in many years,” Saakashvili said. “I’m always oriented towards the future not towards the past and when it concerns to my country and my compatriots, I am always optimistic. I am sure that there is no way back into the past.”
“We have handed over to them [PM Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Georgian Dream coalition] more powers than it was envisaged by the constitution, because we want them to be able to govern and to deliver on those promises, which they have given to you,” he said. “I call on everyone to work for the people and for the future and not to focus on the past and personal confrontation.”
Earlier on November 23 President Saakashvili told journalists after attending St. George Day prayer in the Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi, that “more and more people in Georgia realize that our country is in danger.”
“I’ve been with my people in peace, war, hardship and during rebuilding and I will not leave my people in the times of danger either. We will fully overcome these problems,” Saakashvili said.
