Man Hanged Daughter After She Joined Al-Qaeda

(RFE/RL) — Police in Iraq say a man hanged his 19-year-old daughter after discovering she had joined Al-Qaeda and was preparing to carry out a suicide attack.
The man, named as Al-Najem Ambagui, 52, then buried his daughter, Shakhla, in a canal near the family home in Mandali in Diyala Province, once renowned as an Al-Qaeda stronghold.
A police officer, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, said the crime was discovered after Al-Qaeda prisoners in Baghdad told investigators that they had recruited Shakhla for a suicide mission.
But when police went to her home to arrest her, they were unable to find her and detained her father instead.
He eventually confessed to his crime after three days of interrogation and led officers to the burial spot.
