Pyrrhic Victory: Old Rampant Donald Vs Old Tired Joe, Is Now Old Antique Donald Vs Young Brat Kamala – OpEd
King Pyrrhus in 280 and 279 BC won a battle against the Romans. Despite the victory, the army’s losses were so enormous that Pyrrhus lost the war. A Pyrrhic victory means, therefore, winning something at too high a price, so much so as to produce a final defeat. That could apply to the TV debate between Trump and Biden
No one could have imagined on June 27, the date of the first TV confrontation between the two contenders for the White House, that the problem of age would become the defeat factor to the Presidency for Donald and become Donald Trump’s “Pyrrhic Victory”
On June 27, an eighty-year-old President and an almost eighty-year-old contender, confronted each other. In fact you could call them, Old Joe vs Old Donald, but the almost eighty-year-old Old Donald with a risky promotional choice made the mistake of attacking the advanced age of the President in every way. Joe was tiredc, And he won. But Old Joe is a resilient type of old man
The TV confrontation was largely won by the almost eighty-year-old Donald with disastrous effects for the eighty-year-old Joe on the polls, and on the donors. But only a month after that victory, it is possible to judge the success of the Old Donald as a “Pyrric victory”, recalling the battle of General Pyrrhus, which has remained famous in history because it was won by him, but in such a way that it determined his defeat in the war.
The parallel could apply to Trump, and November 5 will tell us. The fact is that Old Rampant Donald had not predicted that he would promote an Old Resilient Joe. With a decision of extraordinary political impact, Resilient Joe stepped aside and in order to defeat Trump presented his Vice President on the field, a replacement of maximum procedural correctness as well as great electoral foresight. The drastic improvement in the polls and radically increased funding of donosrs, are proving that Resilent Old Joe has inflicted a Knock Down on his opponent, because after the TV victory now there is onliy one of old men left on the field. The opponent Old Joe in the electoral sense has been defeated but the victory in that TV battle can be a Pyrrhic victory for Old Donald now that the conflict can be renamed Old Antique Donald vs Young Brat Kamala.
“Brat” is the way Charli XCX, the young stubborn music star at the top of the charts with her songs, immediately renamed Kamala when she replaced Old Joe. Charli XCX Tweeted “Kamala IS brat”. This immediately produced a change in the communication campaign with a KAMALA HQ in green style cover of Charli XCX’s album.
To quote Sofia De Benedictis of Reset “The term Brat of Charli XCX’s album [urges us] to consider the tensions inherent in modern feminism’s simultaneous encouragement of careerism and sisterly solidarity”, identifying the struggle faced by too many women today.
Now Kamala is not actually “Brat” in the strict sense of the term, because the political vision of her first speech in Wisconsin presents her as an – almost – full fledged political contender. The – almost – refers to the fact that her vision of foreign policy is still missing, especially for Ukraine, which however was not adequate to express in her first Wisconsin rally. But given the immediate viral impact of Charli XCX’s term Kamala is brat, on the Internet generation – absolutely impossible to reach from Old Donald – it can be noted that Old Rampant Donald of June 27 has definitively turned into Old Antique Donald of July 27. Antique can be interesting term for collectors, but certainly not for voters.
So it is not far-fetched to say that the TV victory of June 27 was a Pyrrhic victory that can be transformed into a defeat on November 5.
But it must be remembered that the great operator of change was Old Tired Joe who unleashing his deputy Kamala, inflicted an unexpected knockdown on his opponent that could turn into Knock Out if the Resilient Old Joe decided to leave the post of President to Kamala. Kamala President NOW! could be the unexpected result of the post-June 27th, the second victory of Resilient Old Joe, over Old Antique Donald. Second and perhaps final for political future of Trump.
But in the meantime, this change from “Old Rampant” to “The Only Old” has a devastating negative impact on his campaign with the younger and internet generations, and can already allow us to define the TV result of June 27 as a real Pyrrhic victory of the Old Rampant Donald who has now turned into the Old Antique Donald.
