Israel Violates Gaza Truce

By

The Israeli army killed Sunday a Palestinian member of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Israel said he was plotting a rocket firing towards Israel. Another activist was wounded during an airstrike.

Leaders of the Islamist movement, which has been controlling Gaza since 2007, confirmed that the two men were armed and belong to Hamas. They were attacked by Israeli warplanes near the town of Khan Younis while on a motorcycle.

The Israeli army announced separately that two rockets fired from Gaza had hit the Israeli city of Beersheba, about 40 kilometers from the border, causing no damage.

The Popular Resistance Committees, an Islamist group in the Gaza Strip, claimed responsibility for the rocket firing.

These incidents put an end to a three-day lull after Israel killed at least four activists in Gaza in retaliation for dozens of rockets aimed at Israeli towns.
