The information environment of the internet is undergoing a fundamental transformation today. In the past, information was a scarce resource, and those who controlled more information held a distinct advantage. Today, however, information production is severely overproduced. Across social media platforms, almost any piece of news is swiftly met with contradictory narratives, each with a seemingly reasonable explanation. Modern misinformation is also becoming increasingly sophisticated, packaging itself with indistinguishable data, selective facts, and so-called closed-loop logic to make itself appear remarkably sensible. The greatest danger of this kind of information is that it stays very close to the truth while subtly steering people toward different conclusions and judgments. As a result, public opinion becomes increasingly “polluted”, and that “information pollution” gradually shapes public opinion itself. With falsehoods constantly flooding our lives in ways that are overwhelming and difficult to avoid, this has become an undeniable reality.

Especially now, as the entire world stands on the verge of entering the AI era, the defining characteristic of this era is that “seeing is no longer believing”. Everything we see may be fabricated, including videos, films, and stories; all could very well be generated by AI. With the massive surge in generative AI, deepfakes, content-spinning bots, and low-quality content from marketing accounts, the internet is rapidly falling into the dual predicament of “information pollution” and the “Dead Internet Theory”. The “Dead Internet Theory”, emerged in 2019, predicted that the internet would “no longer be an internet for real people”, with a vast majority of content manufactured by bots, algorithms, and marketing accounts. Eight years later, this has become reality.

When the production cost of information approaches zero, the cost of information filtering, verification, and trust rises exponentially. Under these circumstances, the anchor point of commercial value undergoes a fundamental shift from “creating more content” to “proving authenticity, filtering out noise, and providing certainty”. Just as when small enterprises became capable of producing high-quality women’s handbags, giants like Louis Vuitton were able to imbue their handbags with specific, and at times absolute, value.

Consequently, the core question has shifted from “how much information can be produced” to “how much information is still worth believing”. If the past competition was about who could produce more content, the future competition will be about who can prove authenticity, filter out noise, and minimize misjudgment. Following this logic, we will witness the explosive growth and value restructuring of five major industries and their specialized sectors in the future.

First, the development will steer towards “authenticity verification”, “truth identification”, and the digital security industry. What this industry creates and provides is essentially the infrastructure of social trust. When the naked eye and traditional experience can no longer distinguish the authenticity of images, videos, voiceprints, or even official documents, “authenticity verification” becomes an absolute, rigid necessity.

In the past, cybersecurity focused primarily on preventing system intrusions and data theft. Now, it must also answer a much more urgent question: whether what is before our eyes is real or fake. Consequently, deepfake detection, voiceprint identification, digital watermarking, content provenance, and device-level authentication will all become critical. The value of much future content will depend not only on “what was said”, but also on “who said it, where it came from, and who modified it”. Goods manufacturing and supply chains will face the same challenge. Pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, luxury goods, and critical components will all require more reliable proof of origin. Those who can prove they are genuine will retain value and credibility, and people who have been deceived, battered, bewildered, and exhausted by scams will be willing to pay a higher premium for the truth.

Second, there will be the emergence of high-quality “information filtering” and knowledge condensation services.

When searching for a query shows tens of thousands of marketing junk articles mass-generated by AI, tools and industries that efficiently save people time will command extremely high payment barriers. The widespread use of algorithmic recommendations inevitably generates information cocoons and astronomical amounts of junk information. The solution, a new industrial phenomenon, would cause the surging of the value of professional activities such as paid newsletters curated and endorsed by professional human editors and industry experts, as in the Substack model, as well as closed, high-threshold communities such as paid think tanks and expert clubs. In addition, personal digital filtering assistants and customized AI agents will present vast opportunities, as these knowledge-processing methods are capable of extracting source-verified, hard-core information.

What is more important would be expert services on simplifying complex data and knowledge concentration. The specialized research services provided by these experts can distill lengthy, ambiguous, and heavily bloated information streams into precise research reports and briefings using knowledge-condensation methods. This would be a typical “expert service” geared toward high-density decision-making, and it will become a high-efficiency “megaproject” direction for achieving information dimensionality reduction in the future.

In fact, the value of simplifying complex information will far exceed that of making it more complicated, particularly for policy study. Ten thousand results provided by a search engine may possess far less value than ten items carefully selected by professional researchers. Information filtering can no longer be simply understood as summarization. Summarization merely compresses length. True filtering requires evaluating sources, assessing weight and consequences, demanding rigorous training in knowledge, experience, and methodology, and requiring someone to take responsibility for the conclusions. Such research capabilities and supplies are exceptionally scarce in an era of information pollution.

Third, experiential spaces and offline “onsite economies” will become more crucial, as the “offline economy” creates immutable physical reality.

Words, voices, and videos in the virtual network can now be massively falsified at low cost. The war in Ukraine saw both sides produce a vast number of fake videos, which is why the “irreplaceability of the physical world” is bound to undergo a reassessment of value, delivering higher value than ever before.

The “offline economy” includes high-end offline social networking, intellectual symposiums, and study tours. People will increasingly lean toward “face-to-face” communication because real-time interaction on-site cannot be faked by AI and digital pollution. The same applies to live performances, sporting events, and frontline news reporting. In the future journalism industry, war correspondents and deep investigative reporters equipped with “frontline reporting and editing capabilities” will far surpass desk-bound writers who compile and summarize information from the rear. Reviewing a hundred documents may not rival taking a stroll through a workshop or having a single conversation with the parties involved. Many truths are never written into reports, yet they manifest in people’s expressions, on-site order, and actual operational states, all of which form the core value of professional independent field research.

Fourth, having exclusive, high-grade, clean data and information is a rare data resource in a world drowning in digital pollution, the single greatest advantage one can hold in the age of AI.

The public internet is a vital feeding ground for every major AI model right now, yet web data quality is sliding downhill fast. As AI-generated text, recycled articles, and spam flood the net, the really valuable data is locked behind closed doors, including hospital case files, corporate operational logs, industrial blueprints, court rulings, academic archives, and human-verified industry databases. The value here is not just about how massive the dataset is but about clear origins, stable structures, continuous updates, and absolute purity. Everyone will be using AI to work, but whether the inputs are built on pristine, uncontaminated data will be the dividing line between brilliant output and absolute garbage.

Heavily polluted data can easily become a liability, essentially being standardized information garbage processed by AI. What is genuinely valuable are data, materials, and reports that have not been repeatedly rewritten or self-replicated by machines, which can stand up to real-world verification.

Indeed, information and research databases built through decades of accumulation, manual curation, and logical organization form the fundamental threshold for gaining an edge in AI-era competition. Without such repositories serving as inputs for AI, final outputs will remain highly questionable. Consequently, competing for these resources as raw inputs will become critical to future AI competition, as well as the key to distinguishing, defining, and vetting substantive research levels and value.

Fifth, original human creation will command a “de-AI-fied” premium, such as peer-to-peer markets and humanistic value creation activities. When the market is saturated with polished yet cold AI-generated artworks and copywriting, products that are flawed, authentic, and infused with human emotional warmth will inevitably emerge as new luxury goods.

Future fields such as research, publishing, art, design, and even handicrafts may introduce certification marks denoting “no AI participation” or “100% human creation”, commanding a higher price. Trust in named personal brands will shift further from institutions to specific individuals. The endorsement value of an industry expert or key opinion leader (KOL) who possesses a long-standing credit history, a public profile, and flesh-and-blood authenticity will far surpass that of countless anonymous or pseudonymous information platforms.

It is worth noting that while these five industrial directions appear disparate, the underlying logic is entirely consistent. As low-quality, mass information proliferates, the market will undergo a fundamental re-pricing and re-valuation. Authenticity verification provides truth, information filtering provides certainty, offline presence provides physical experiences, private data provides reliable raw materials, and human creation and personal branding provide enduring trust. Information pollution will not cause the information industry to vanish. Rather, it will gradually shift value from the content production end toward the verification, curation, and trust ends.

Naturally, merely affixing labels such as “trustworthy,” “manual,” or “authentic” will not automatically generate high valuations. True commercial barriers will continue to stem from verifiable technology, long-term accumulated data, stable professional capabilities, and accountable credit. The more severe information pollution becomes, the more people whose beliefs are already crumbling become increasingly wary of carefully packaged falsehoods. Once they have had enough, they will inevitably resist the changes that technology is forcing upon them. Amid such impact and transformation, the enterprises that ultimately endure will always be those capable of presenting evidence of long-term trust.
