Ashton Says Ready To Resume Nuclear Talks With Iran

By

EU High Representative Catherine Ashton Tuesday said she has replied to the letter sent on February 14 by Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili.

“On behalf of China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, I have offered to resume talks with Iran on the nuclear issue,” said Ashton in a statement.

“Time and venue of these talks will now be agreed. We hope that Iran will now enter into a sustained process of constructive dialogue which will deliver real progress in resolving the international community’s long-standing concerns on its nuclear programme,” she added.

In her letter released to the press, Ashton said the dialogue has to focus on Iran’s nuclear programme but said she is ready to address other issues of interest.

Talks between Iran and the 5+1 were broken off more than a year ago in Istanbul.
