A high-level Saudi delegation led by the Kingdom’s Investment Minister Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih arrived Pakistan on three-day official visit. The visit aims to enhance bilateral trade and investment but also to strengthen the deep-rooted ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Pakistan hopes $2 billion in investment proposals will be finalized during the dignitary’s three-day visit. It’s a significant step towards fostering economic cooperation and mutual growth.
Al-Falih’s visit is strategically timed ahead of the SCO Summit, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation. His presence in Islamabad underscores Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen ties in key areas such as trade, defense, energy, and more with friendly nations and regional allies, with the aim to attract foreign investment and shore up its $350 billion economy.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in particular have been working closely in recent months to increase bilateral trade and investment, with Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment earlier this year to expedite a $5 billion investment package for the South Asian country.
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have maintained a robust partnership since Pakistan’s independence in 1947. The foundation of this relationship has been built on mutual respect, shared religious ties, and common interests in regional stability. During a business meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar noted that Pakistan’s new economic programme, backed by International Monetary Fund, represented a “shift from past policies by moving away from easy stimulus”, a Foreign Office statement said.
He highlighted that the Saudi delegation’s visit came “at a pivotal time as Pakistan embarks on a journey of economic recovery and growth, supported by key reforms aimed at fostering private investment and enhancing public services”.
Moreover, in their meeting at the President’s House, President Zardari and the visiting Saudi delegation led by Al Faleh underlined the need to work together to build a prosperous and peaceful future for the region as well as for Muslim countries.
Minister Al Faleh said that Saudi Arabia recognised the strategic geographical significance of Pakistan and its potential for natural resources and renewable energy.
The president also highly commended the friendly country’s remarkable progress under Vision 2030 and expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s continued support to Pakistan during challenging times.
The visit of the Saudi delegation to Pakistan marks a significant milestone in the enduring relationship between the two countries.
