Balochistan Liberation Army: The Truth Behind The Lies – OpEd
The false pretence of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) ever being an organization that can represent the Baloch people has finally been dissolved. This group has over the years been working under the cloak of people struggling in the name of the rights and freedom of the Baloch people. However, recent disclosures and undeniable evidence stripped that mask providing revelation of the organization as nothing better than a proxy body serving foreign masters. The myth has collapsed; the lie has been exposed.
In the past, the BLA and such groups have utilized the grudges and worries of the Baloch people to promote their violent cause. They appeared as defenders of justice and self-determination using emotionally loaded stories to appeal to the interest of the greater world. However, the contrast between their claims and reality has become very apparent with time. Although they had proclaimed to struggle for dignity and autonomy, they have used bombings, targeted assassinations, and attacks on equipment that was designed to help the local community. These acts have always exploited the people it is supposed to defend.
The evidence linking BLA to foreign Intelligence agencies are overwhelming in the recent times. Some of the most shocking revelations include the fact that there was a high level of ideological and operational linkage between the BLA and Indian interests. The group’s leadership has been pictured alongside Indian politicians, including supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Narendra Modi, whose policies in Kashmir have received widespread criticism for human rights abuses. These pictures, pro-India remarks, and public visuals in Indian media organizations depicting the BLA as “freedom fighters” serve more than a symbolism – it is a strategic alliance against Pakistan.
The character of this alliance is revealing. Instead of trying to empower the Baloch people by development and dialogue, the BLA’s main goal has been corrupted to destabilizing Balochistan and Pakistan at large. This objective flows naturally to the strategic interests of ill-wishers abroad that consider unrest in Pakistan an asset in the geopolitics. The BLA is in fact turned into an instrument of proxy warfare. Their arsenal is not only guns and bombs but also lies, fear, and manipulation.
It should be said that the Baloch people do not consider the voice of the BLA as theirs. In contrast, most citizens of Baloch do not want war and want to live in peace, stability and development. They know that the real road to improvement does not go through fighting, but through education, healthcare, work, and infrastructure building: the efforts that the Pakistani state is actively carrying out and is actively promoted by its institutions. Schools have been constructed, roads are linking far off places, hospitals are providing the services and employment avenues are being created for the youth. Such concrete indicators of the progress completely refute the BLA’s rhetoric and demonstrate the senselessness of its armed struggle.
In addition, the youth of Balochistan today are better informed and global savvy than they ever were. They are challenging the minds of those organizations which teach them liberation, yet they bring them bloodshed and despair. These young minds know that real empowerment will be brought about through education, not extremism. by playing a part in democracy, not the divisive militancy. The BLA’s message is being heard by deaf ears since it is old, inimical, and inauthentic.
From the Indian agencies, it cannot be excluded that they fanned the flames of insurgency in Balochistan. India’s investment on sponsoring negatory elements against Pak in the region has been recorded by various intelligence report and its observation made notable by international observers. The aim is clear: To cause internal disagreement within the Pakistan’s boundaries, weaken its institutions and distract them from the regional phenomenon. These are however starting to blow up in their face as the truth comes out. The more the BLA gets exposed as a puppet of other people’s agendas, the less credibility the BLA holds over the Baloch people.
This is a turning point. The tone of the story is changing from the rebellious to the one of reconciliation and reconstruction. The Pakistani government and armed forces are progressively getting involved in programs where they listen to the complaints of the locals and invest in long term solutions. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)-based projects have already started changing the region for better; it is not only about infrastructure here, but also the expectation. These efforts are efforts which are oriented to the partial integration of Balochistan into the national economic system thus making the resources of Balochistan the priority of the Baluchistan.
The players on the international front must also do their part that is differentiating between political grievances and violent militancy. Supporting the rights of the Baloch people does not entail giving the legitimacy to organizations like the BLA, whose real affiliations do not stand with the people but with the foreign paymasters who finance this insurgency. Nations and human rights bodies must be watchful so that they are not being deceived by lies coated in the language of resistance.
