Venezuela: Chavez May Require Another Chemotherapy Course

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said in an interview with the national TV that Cuban doctors will soon decide whether he will need the third round of chemotherapy.

Chavez, 57, underwent an operation in Cuba on June 20 to remove a cancerous tumor in his pelvic area. He returned to Venezuela on Sunday after the second round of chemotherapy.

“In the next few days the doctors will decide whether the third round of chemotherapy is needed, and then decide whether a course of radiotherapy should follow,” he said.

The Venezuelan leader said he has “no difficulties in receiving the treatment” and will soon start weight-gaining exercises. Chavez said he lost almost 18 kg and now weights 86.4 kg.
