Russia: Putin To ‘Consolidate Political System’ As New President

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Monday he is determined to return to the Kremlin to consolidate the foundations of the country’s political system and facilitate economic diversification.

Putin spoke in an interview with three national TV channels seven weeks before parliamentary elections scheduled for December 4.

Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev have backed one another to switch roles after 2012 presidential elections. Medvedev proposed Putin for president at the United Russia congress in late September, saying he was ready to head the government in case of Putin’s victory.
