Saudi Colonel Arrested For Alleged World Cup Terror Plot

By

Officials in Iraq on Monday arrested a Saudi army official on allegations he was planning to participate in Al-Qaeda attacks on the World Cup.

Colonel Azzam al-Qahtani was accused of conspiring with the terrorist organisations in Baghdad.

Officials behind the arrest were not giving any details of what alleged World Cup attack plans they uncovered.

South African police commissioner Bheki Cele told the South African Parliament two weeks ago that South African police had investigated a threat by Al Shabaab, an al-Qaeda offshoot, and decided it was not credible.

Cele insisted South Africa was more than prepared for any terror threat to the World Cup.
