Handicapping The Race Of Next Democratic Candidate: Kamala Is A Winner if She Receives Biden’s Full Investiture – OpEd
The term handicap indicates a particular category of racing at gallop, where one or more experts, called “handicappers”, establish a scale of values by assigning the weight that the individuals will have to carry in the race.
When President Biden, with a great sense of statesmanship, gave up being the candidate in the November elections, a handicap course began. Biden resigned not for health reasons, but for the fact that a certain advanced age makes every health problem great, and condemns the candidate to certain defeat. Kamala then emerged on the proposal of the President himself as the natural competitor and immediately the top Dem leaders supported her.
The handicap race then began.
Kamala’s Handicap is easy to define. According to CBS, the gap between Trump and Biden from 2% in the first week of July had become 52-47. Meanwhile, the Democrats asking Biden to leave the confrontation have increased to 63%. They eventually won.
These margins were set to increase. Now they are destined to shrink. In a couple of weeks – maybe only in one – Kamala will recover the gap and the final race will begin.
But this time Trump will be in a clear defensive position due to his age. The terms of the confrontation have been reversed thanks to Biden.
The best horse has the greatest weight
Kamala is obviously top racer. In fact, she determines a radical change in the presidential campaign. The average age of American citizen (38 years old) and Trump (78) makes a gap of 40 years, really a lot if you think that for 18-year-old voter the distance is 60 years! Bringing the gap with Kamala (59) to 20 favors a relationship with young people that Trump lacks. Not to mention that women would find a President of that sex fascinating.
But in this change of leader, Kamala could also introduce more than justified changes to her program by confiscating reasonable themes of her strategy from the Trump campaign. Trump is right in some cases. For example, the function of NATO could be subject to revision, especially if inserted in a context of reduction of the unjustified war of encirclement with Russia. That Europe pays more NATO expenses is also reasonable.
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, characterized so far by the speed with which she has purchased Covid vaccines and by her total adherence to the war against Russia, has few readings. She has not read War and Peace by Tolstoy, a Russian writer whom literature lovers insist on considering European. She has not read Philippe-Paul de Ségur, when he describes Napoleon’s hasty return by carriage from the Moscow he thought he had conquered to discover that Russians set that in fire. She does not know that in Sevastopol the invincible German army suffered its first and decisive defeat not by regular armies but by civilian populations. Russia is the one described by Tolstoy and Sevastopol. But for Europe somebody should explain to Europe but also to America, that Russia is a historical necessity. And in addition to good readings, Ursula lacks a sense of history. When the barrier with the east was broken, because of the fall of Roman empire, Europe was invaded by Frisians, Saxons, Franks, Alemanni, Burgundians, Marcomanni, Quadi, Lugi, Vandals, Lutungi, Gepids, Goths, Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Lombards, Scythians, Borans, Heruli and Huns (along the Rhine-Danube rivers and the Black Sea) who settled everywhere. Today, with an Asia that is increasingly (rightly) aware of its role, someone has to explain that the Urals are the protective barrier of Europe that only Russia can support.
Ask Macron as a guest of Modi at the great parade of the Indian republic: Asia is close. (fortunately). Are we sure America wants to get Asia everywhere in Europe? But if reading is too tiring, Ursula could see Philip Dick’s television series, the Man in the High Castle in which the swastika won the Second World War and dominates everywhere even Capitol Hill. That swastika was prevented from triumphing because the Russians sacrificed 27 million people. Without that sacrifice, the Normandy landings could not have been successful. So in some cases Trump is right. And there is no reason why Kamala should not recognize it. And if Ursula herself, who has few readings and lacks historical sense, instead of peace wants total war Ukraine, as she declares on every occasion, she should pay the cost by dividing it among the various states that elected her, relieving America of a cost that has reached $175 billion and that taxpayers increasingly find unjustified.
However by confiscating one of Trump’s more than justified positions, Kamala could actually do much more than simply reducing the cost of the war in Ukraine. She could be inspired by Kennedy’s famous speech when he told students at the Commencement Address at American University in Washington in the middle of the Cold War that “we must understand Russia’s reasons” to achieve peace. Please notice the importance of this statement.
“What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children–not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women–not merely peace in our time but peace for all time”
That was perhaps the best speech as an American president of the last century.
Young. Woman. Constructive. Positive look. And let’s not forget it, attorney general in California. This transition can only be sure victory if Biden passes the baton of President to Kamala Harris, for the last three months allowing her to present herself at the Democratic convention as the first American female president, arousing and awakening immense youthful electoral resources asleep by opposing conflicts.
Introducing the first American woman President would be an additional Biden victory over Trump,
Kamala President NOW! She can win her handicap race thanks to a Kennedy-like inspiration that not only America but the whole world absolutely needs.
