Iraq: Deadly Attacks Rock Nation, 30 Killed

About 30 people were killed and some 100 wounded in shootings and bombings near Iraq’s capital Baghdad and elsewhere in the country, the Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera quoted officials as saying.

The attacks came as Muslims marked the second day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

There were two roadside bomb explosions aimed against civilians in the al-Jihad neighborhood southwest of Baghdad, a police source said, in which one person died and six were injured.

Nine people were believed killed and dozens injured as two parked car bombs were blown up in Sadr City in northern Baghdad.

The rest were killed in other incidents across the country, including a bomb explosion on a bus 25 kilometers (15 miles) north of Baghdad, a blast in Baghdad’s northeastern Ma’amel neighborhood and attacks in Mosul, 350 km (217 miles) north of the capital, targeting the Shabak community.
