By

Greek President Karolos Papoulias issued a decree to dissolve parliament and called for early elections, which are to be held on May 6th of this year.

The presidential decree was officially posted in the parliament on Wednesday night. Elections will be held nearly a half year earlier than called for by the Greek constitution.

Those participating in the right leaning coalition, who are on the center-right and center-left expect to resolve all differences in the elections, while voters, for the first time, will have the opportunity to express their opinions on the Greek policies of stringent cuts in exchange for the EU and IMF loans.

As expected, the new Greek parliament will convene the first meeting on May 17th.

In a televised address to the citizens of the country Prime Minister Papadimos said that the elections will bring with them new challenges and new solutions.
