Pakistan Asks US To Respect Red-Lines, National Sovereignty

By

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday — urging the US to follow the conditions set by Pakistan — asked the US to respect its red-lines, its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Premier in a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter said that the US must guarantee there was no breach of of Pakistan’s frontiers in the future, said a press statement.

Prime Minister Gilani, it said, told the ambassador that it was his primary responsibility to safeguard Pakistan’s dignity and honour. Respect for sovereignty and non-repeat of unilateral actions were the very minimum that Pakistan expected, he added.

The meeting came a day after the US froze USD 700 million in aid to Pakistan. Pakistan, US relations have nosedived since NATO/ISAF — ostensibly inadvertently — killed 24 Pakistani soldiers at a border checkpost.
