Syria: Students Demonstrate Against Assad Regime

Activists on Sunday said dozens of students have demonstrated near the capital Damascus calling for the downfall of President Bashar Assad’s regime on the first day of school in Syria.

The Local Coordination Committees network conveyed elementary students in the Damascus suburb of Kisweh chanted: “There will be no classes until the president is brought down.”

According to the AP, the activist network also said that security forces fired into the air on Sunday, forcing students of another school in the area to disperse.

Activists said nine protesters were shot dead on Saturday by government forces. A total of 51 people were reportedly killed by security forces in various parts across Syria on Friday.
